Les Amis, a women-focused friendship app, launches in New York with AI-matched meetups

Making new friends as an adult can be challenging, especially after a big move. A new wave of social apps is stepping in to help, and one standout is Les Amis — a community built for women, transgender, and LGBTQ+ people, most active among users in their mid-20s to early 40s.
Les Amis (French for “friends”) combines profiles, interest tags, and an AI helper to make connecting feel intentional rather than random. Users set up a profile with photos, a short bio, and curated interests — from poetry and gardening to yoga and martial arts — to signal what kinds of connections and activities they want.
The app’s AI assistant, “Amis,” runs matching rounds every two weeks. On Mondays, it surfaces a potential friend based on shared interests and similar life stages — whether someone is single or married, a new parent, new to town, or seeking professional networking with peers in comparable career fields. The cadence gives members time to chat and plan a meetup later in the week.
Beyond 1:1 introductions, an explore page spotlights local events and experiences you can join directly in the app — think pottery classes, book clubs, wine tastings, Pilates, workshops, social mixers, and recreational activities. Les Amis also recently added “Trips,” enabling group travel to destinations like Morocco, Iceland, and Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
Les Amis operates on a membership model with pricing that varies by city. In New York, membership is $70 per month, while in Amsterdam it’s €55 per month. Members receive flexible credits to spend on experiences, and unused credits can be used in any city where Les Amis operates — handy for travelers who want to meet locals or join events on the road.
The app is available on iOS and Android across multiple European cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, and Stockholm. After establishing a footprint in Europe, Les Amis began a U.S. rollout — debuting in Austin earlier this year and arriving in New York this month. Next up: Boston, followed by Washington, D.C., then Miami in October. A Los Angeles launch is also on the roadmap.
In New York, events officially start on August 25. Until then, the app remains in an application-acceptance phase and has already received more than 2,000 applications from New Yorkers eager to join.
Les Amis was founded in 2022 by Anna Bilych (formerly of PayPal) and Oleg Pashinin (formerly of Google’s AI teams), inspired by the challenge of rebuilding a social circle after relocating. To date, the company reports roughly 120,000 installs, around 30,000 women who have attended events, and an annual run rate of approximately $1 million.
